The Antioch Police Department is currently investigating a homicide that occurred on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at 10:37 p.m. in the 2300 block of Banyan Way. The victim is a 43 year-old male. He was shot multiple times in front of his residence.

On Wednesday, December 5, 2012, Antioch Police Detectives presented their case to the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office and formal charges were filed on 24 year-old Jeremy Mark Griffin of Oakley, 24 year-old Boise Alexander Duggan of Concord and 28 year-old Johntue Felix-Hinds of Antioch for the shooting death of 32 year-old Juan Jose Hernandez on November 14, 2012. All three suspects were charged with murder and assault with a firearm.

Griffin was additionally charged with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and dissuading a witness, which are both felonies.

witness, felony evading of a police officer, first degree residential burglary as well as a “Three Strikes” enhancement.

During the investigation, police learned that the incident began after clothes belonging to Griffin, Duggan and a third person came up missing from the apartment complex laundry room. Griffin, Duggan and Hinds went to Apartment 43 to locate the missing clothes when an argument ensued between them and the occupants. Hernandez, who was not involved in the theft of the clothes was

Detectives from the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff are continuing to investigate a Bay Point death case. On Tuesday night, November 27, 2012, at about 11:49 PM, Deputy Sheriffs responded to a shooting call at the 400 block of Clifford Court in Bay Point. Deputies found a 25-year-old woman suffering from a gunshot wound in a driveway. She was later pronounced deceased. She has been identified as Samantha Holderman of Antioch. The autopsy was conducted this morning. The cause of death is pending toxicology tests.

Case deemed suspicious and under investigation

On Monday, November 26, 2012 at approximately 4:52 PM, the Antioch Police Department received a report of a subject possibly dead inside a home off of Mira Vista Court. Officers responded to the residence to find the 52-year-old, male victim deceased from what appeared to be a gunshot wound. The circumstances surrounding this incident are still being looked into, and the case is currently being investigated as a suspicious death.

On Monday, November 26, 2012 at approximately 1:20 p.m., Antioch police detectives arrested a third suspect for the homicide of 32 year-old Juan Hernandez, following a short vehicle pursuit and then a chase on foot. Detectives had been conducting surveillance for this suspect in the area of Bryan Avenue and A Street in Antioch, when they spotted him as the driver of a Hyundai Santa Fe that was taken during a carjacking in Antioch, on Sunday.

A vehicle stop was attempted on the Santa Fe but the driver and his 21 year-old male passenger refused to stop and led officers on a vehicle pursuit South on A Street. As the vehicle approached the intersection of Lone Tree Way and Putnam Street, the driver lost control and crashed into a BMW that was traveling north on Lone Tree Way. No one was injured in the collision. Following the collision, the two suspects exited their carjacked vehicle and fled on foot into a nearby neighborhood. Following a short search, both subjects were arrested without incident.

Prior to this arrest, Antioch police detectives had arrested two other subjects in connection with this homicide. The arrested suspects names and photographs are not being released at this time as further follow up and investigation is currently being conducted. Antioch police plan to present this case to the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s office this week.

Hernandez was shot and killed on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 while at a friend’s house located at 2301 Sycamore Drive in Antioch.

Antioch’s Chief of Police will be conducting another “Coffee with the Cops” event this Saturday, December 1st from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Consequently we have canceled our Neighborhood Cleanup on that date .

Come join Chief Allan Cantando in a casual setting to discuss public safety issues, crime statistics, etc.  Chief Cantando will be providing a brief presentation on crime statistics.  Open communication about community issues is encouraged.

This “Coffee with the Cops” workshop will be held in the Antioch Police Department Community Room located at 300 L Street.  Members of the Antioch Crime Prevention Commission will be in attendance, and make themselves available to answer questions with a focus on enhancing Neighborhood Watch programs for Antioch residents.  

The “Coffee with the Cops” concept was developed as a pilot program by the Antioch Police Department in an effort to improve communication between the Police Department and the citizens they serve. These meetings will consist of a one-on-one type format with a member of the police command staff and members of the community. The format of these meetings has been designed to be informative.

On Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at approximately 9:12 PM, the Antioch Police Department received a report of a shooting at the Delta Pines apartments located at 2301 Sycamore Drive. Officers responded to apartment #43 where they found a 32 year-old Antioch man, deceased from an apparent gunshot wound. In the room near the victim was what appeared to be an improvised explosive device.

The Walnut Creek Police Bomb Squad was summoned, and they were able to determine that the suspicious object was not an explosive device. It was removed from the apartment without incident. The homicide is currently being investigated by the Antioch Police Department.

It’s Antioch’s sixth homicide of the year.

Felicia Viscaina (4-12-87)

On Friday, November 9, 2012, Joshua Perry, age 31 and Felicia Viscaina, age 25 have been arrested in the Thursday, November 8, 2012 murder of 44 year-old Antioch resident, Vaughn Walker.

This homicide appears to have occurred after an argument over money.

Viscaina and Perry were arrested in Antioch at approximately 4:30 a.m., Friday, November 9, 2012 by Antioch Police officers and detectives.

They were both interviewed and later sent to the Martinez Detention Facility. The Antioch Police Department will be seeking murder charges against the duo next week.
