Antioch’s new Speed Clean Laundry offers unique laundromat services
Sunday, August 9th, 2015
Speed Clean Laundry is located on East 18th Street in the former Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant building across from Pinky’s Klassy Kar Wash.
By Allen Payton
Antioch has a new laundromat may not sound too exciting. But, Speed Clean Laundry is different, offering a variety of new features not seen in another laundromat in town, before.
Not only are their washing machines and dryers all new and state of the art, they accept payment by credit and debit cards, and even Google Wallet and Apple Pay for the tech-savy individuals among us.
But, even more fantastic is Speed Clean offers pick-up, delivery and drop-off laundry service, as well.
Now, that’s exciting.
Then there’s the fact they have flat screen TV’s inside to keep you entertained, should you need to stay up on the latest news or your favorite talk show and of course, free WiFi to keep up with your social media and web surfing.
“We are here all the time which differentiates us from everyone else,” said owner Paul Spangenberg.
He and his wife Georgia, who, with their 16-year-old son and 13-year-old daughter, moved to Antioch in 2012, all work in the business.
The family participated in this year’s Antioch July 4th Parade with an entry promoting their new business, which included bubbles blowing out the back of the truck.
“I can’t do this without them,” Paul shared.
They opened the doors in the former Kentucky Fried Chicken location, at 317 East 18th Street, on Friday, July 24, the same day they obtained their final city approvals.
“I was literally signing off the papers with the inspector to open and we had people walking in to do their laundry,” he said with a laugh.
This is their first laundromat. But, even with the professional look to the place, it’s not a franchise.
“We’ve been praying about this for months,” said Paul. “I’ve been asking God ‘please provide and He is.’”
It was jam packed full on Monday. So, it’s a good thing they have extra parking in their lot, across Noia Avenue.
“It’s been fun meeting our customers,” he shared. “They’re telling me what they like and what they don’t like. So far the customers are pretty happy.”
One of those customers was Candice Ireland.
“I have a love of laundromats,” she stated. “The machines are all brand new and so large, you can do all your laundry in one load. You can swipe your card, no fumbling with quarters.
“And their dryers work,” Ireland added. “I started coming to the laundromat because of the drought.”
That’s another aspect of Speed Clean. They’re eco-friendly.
“We use up to 50-80% less water than the average home machine,” Paul stated.
Speed Clean Laundry is open Open 7 Days A Week from 6 AM – 10 PM with the Last Wash at 9 PM. For more information, stop by, call (925) 529-1121 or visit their website at www.speedcleanlaundry.com.

Friday, June 19th, 2015Nathan Bingham’s Hawaiian Style Rentals& Sales offers mopeds, scooters, bicycles and more
HONOLULU, HI, June 16, 2015 – When entrepreneur, Nathan Bingham, started his business out of the back of his pick-up truck at the ripe old age of 19, little did he know that it would grow into one of the most popular locally owned and operated activity companies in Hawaii. Established in July 2005 with just a couple of mopeds, Bingham has proudly grown the business slow and steady to a staff of six employees, a fleet of mopeds, bicycles, and the new environmental friendly Scoot Coupes, along with its headquarters now located in the heart of Waikiki.
With a lot of hard work and determination, Bingham and the staff of Hawaiian Style Rentals & Sales (HSRS) are on their way to celebrating their 10-year anniversary on July 4, 2015. As anyone knows, getting to such a successful milestone anniversary is no small feat for any business.
“At HSRS, we have a sense of purpose,” said Bingham. “Most of our customers are first-time riders and visitors to Hawaii. We not only show them how to safely operate their new vehicle, but we also help give them cool suggestions on where to go and what to do for that day. They always have a great time and we receive a number of reviews and compliments about how much fun they had on their rentals.”
The company has also found itself in the position to reach out and give back and have established several partnerships in the community including the Hawaii Food Bank, Parents And Children Together (PACT), and Make-A-Wish Hawaii.
“At the end of 2014, our staff was able to collect 546 lbs. of food consisting of canned goods and bags of rice during the holiday season,” Bingham shared. “In February 2015, we partnered with PACT, and each quarter, will donate a bicycle for an under privileged youth through our Bikes For Tikes program.”
“In April 2015, we worked with our friends from Make-A-Wish Hawaii and donated a portion of proceeds from our brand new blue and white Scoot Coupes (an enclosed three-wheel scooter that seats two people side-by-side) to assist with local wishes,” he added.
With an international clientele of guests, every day at HSRS is exciting and different.
“We connect with people from all around the world and have visitors from U.S., Germany, Australia, Canada, Japan, Korea, Italy, Brazil – the list goes on and on,” stated Bingham. “It is amazing how many cultures we get exposed to and they all come here to for one common purpose, and that is to experience the beauty and culture of Hawaii. Our job is to assist in making that experience come true, two-wheels (and sometimes three-wheels) at a time.”
