76th Antioch Neighborhood Cleanup is this Saturday morning, Nov. 5th

Thursday, November 3rd, 2016

CleanupThe Antioch Police Department is excited to announce the 76th installment of the Neighborhood Cleanup Program. This is a collaborative community effort which involves active participation from

The Antioch Police Department Crime Prevention Commission, Neighborhood Watch Program, Volunteers In Police Service, community volunteers and the Public Works Department. Collectively, “We”, everyone who works and lives in the City Antioch, can make a difference and improve the quality of life. It’s our community and it’s our chance to make a difference.

The City of Antioch Neighborhood Cleanup program is not just for residential neighborhoods. It is a program that will change venues on a monthly basis and it will include business and commercial areas as well. Neighborhoods that are free of trash and refuse are inviting, and a clean community instills a sense of community pride.

The 76th Neighborhood Cleanup event will occur on Saturday, November 5th 2016 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. We will be cleaning the neighborhood along Sequoia Drive, Redwood Drive, and surrounding streets.

Volunteers will meet at the south end of Cherry Street and park along the curb near the trail/open space (see map, below).

Volunteers will receive instructions and the equipment necessary to accomplish the goal. The targeted area is within walking distance. Excluding inclement weather, future Neighborhood Cleanup events are scheduled for the first Saturday of every month and the locations will be announced in advance.

Remember, cleaning up your neighborhood can make life better for your family, your neighbors and your community.

Antioch cops to participate in No Shave November for cancer awareness fundraiser, seek community’s help

no-shave-novemberBy Captain Tammany Brooks, Antioch Police Department

If you think Antioch police officers are beginning to look a little hairier than normal…you’re right.

Starting on Tuesday, November 1st, members of the Antioch Police Department began participating in No Shave November.  For those of you not familiar, No Shave November is a fundraising effort to “grow” cancer awareness and raise money to support cancer prevention, research, education, and to help those fighting the battle against cancer.

Our goal will be to raise $5,000 dollars by the end of the month. The money raised will benefit the following organizations: American Cancer Society, Prevent Cancer Foundation, Fight Colorectal Cancer, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Officers participating in this worthwhile cause will be exempt from adhering to the department’s facial hair restrictions as outlined in our Personal Appearance Standards policy.  For this one month exemption, officers must make a $25 dollar donation. Although growing facial hair is typically associated with men, women are free to participate as well.

The initial concept of No Shave November is “to grow awareness by embracing our hair, which many cancer patients lose, and letting it grow wild and free.”  The premise was to donate money one would typically spend in the month on shaving, grooming, and waxing toward this worthy cause.  This includes legs and armpits for women.

To reach our goal, it’s going to take more than just the donations of the participating officers.  I am asking everyone whose life has been affected by cancer, or who knows someone whose life has been affected, to please help support our fundraising efforts by donating.  No amount is too small and every penny counts. Payments can be made in cash, check, or credit card.  Cash and checks should be given to me, with checks made out to No Shave November (with Antioch PD written in the memo line).  Credit card payments can be made directly to our fundraising page no-shave.org/org/AntiochPD.  Remember, these donations can be tax deductible.

Please pass this information on to anyone who you think may be willing to help. Contact me at (925) 779-6978.
