Letter writer says Harper, Wilson have failed on police, crime

Editor:

Antioch is in trouble. Mayor Wade Harper and Councilwoman Monica Wilson are self-promoting failures.  They failed in their recent County Supervisor bids and are now running back to Antioch to keep their current elected positions.  They wanted out of Antioch, so let them stay out. Don’t vote for them.

Their impacts haven’t been positive in many ways.  Antioch is no safer since their elections. Their vision and actions for Antioch have turned it into a crime-plagued and increasingly crowded, unsafe community.

Some of Harper’s primary election campaign platforms were to improve Antioch’s public safety. He boasted “The City of Antioch will be a safer city on my watch” and “Stopping crime now starts with …. Wade Harper.”  He hasn’t kept you any safer.

Harper also promised “more police” and “less crime” in his support for more taxes.  What a farce that he has turned out to be. He was a main proponent for passage of the tax.  Same police, similar crime results since. Monica Wilson just went along and has had no solutions either.  Antioch’s police manpower has really not been increased, even with them at the helm, with almost the same number of sworn officers as before.  But, they did give big salary and benefit increases to certain employee groups, instead of using that money to hire more Officers (which they should’ve done), and they continually voted for more crime-contributing, uncontrolled growth.  That hasn’t kept you any safer.

Antioch’s crime rate hasn’t really been reduced. It’s been a misleading dog and pony show when publicly discussed by them and others.  As an example, where are the 20-plus “more” officers that were promised?  And where is the “less crime” they promised?  Nowhere is where.  Antioch’s documented high crime rate is much higher than the documented California and National average crime rates.

Let’s face it, Antioch’s Wade Harper and Monica Wilson are proven failures, and should not be voted for, again. We can do better without them.

Well said. But the dumb voters who vote primarily on skin color, could care less. I hope people can understand how much of a failure they are, but I worry there aren’t enough smart people in this hell hole of a city.

Hell hole is a compliment. Just drive around. The panhandlers run the city – let’s vote them in. They are doing something right earning $50.00 an hour out there on the medians while the stupid pathetic community gives it to them. Or maybe the lawless Antioch drivers who run through stop signs, red lights – no singnals on turns. While the cops target the lowly Antioch commuter every morning just trying to earn a decent wage and get to work. Or those like my lovely neighbors who sell dope and stolen goods. While you watch the known gang members bring it to them. This is just a few of the things I witness day to day. I get we need to build up the city and notice the positive – I get it I do – but come on, how hard does one have to look at all the rest of what I mentioned here and truly feel this town is a bunch of low lives. It is despicable.

The truth is it was not like this prior to the downturn when all of these scumbags moved here to get away from the blight and violence in surrounding cities – guess what, they brought it with them. I could leave me garage door open during the day, I could go out into my own front yard. Now those normal, every day things are taken away. These thugs run this town. When I say known gang members, I’m not kidding. One of those they just arrested from the Omega Red Operation frequented my neighborhood. I JUST KNEW it was all illegal stuff going on over there. They don’t work – just wreaked havoc on Antioch and my neighborhood. The cops are who I feel for – they did not sign-up to protect us from the brand of criminal that Antioch inherited. Their values, upbringing and morals are the likes I’ve never seen. Total disregard. We need officials who can deal with the very issues mentioned here.

I fear you are correct Mr. Brown. The voters of Antioch do not educate themselves. Four more years of either/both of them along with Rocha will be a catastrophic mistake.

  4. Don Ramon says:

I’m curious to know what employee groups got big salary and benefit increases?

  5. Concerned Antioch Resident says:

At tonight’s forum, neither Harper nor Wilson showed. If they were truly interested in representing the citizens of Antioch, they would have made an effort to be there (or at least have had someone there to represent them). They are only in it for the recognition and as a stepping stone to something better.

I’m sure Mr. Harper has a lot to say about it in his new newspaper AntiochChronicle.com Feast your eyes on this bunch of phoney bologna folks. It will be gone as soon as the election is over. I just wonder why he is going up against his good friend Mike of East County Today. Guess he didn’t like the coverage there either.

Wow. A first time. I agree with Ralph 100% . Where do I send my donation?
