Harper to hold Thursday afternoon press conference about Wednesday’s hate crime
Mayor Wade Harper announced, late Wednesday night that he will be holding a press conference on Thursday, September 8, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. at Antioch City Hall, 200 H Street in downtown Antioch, to address the hate crime that occurred in Antioch on Wednesday. (See story, here)
Harper is calling upon local leaders as well as faith-based leaders to attend his press conference and stand together in support of this family who are victims of this “despicable crime,” as he described it in his press release.
However, when asked if any of the family members who are victims will be in attendance and/or anyone from the police department to provide more details about the case, Harper responded, “Chief Cantando doesn’t plan to have anyone in attendance unless he has additional information. I’m sure he will reach out to me or attend if he does. No plans for family members to be there.”
Seems like Harper is trying to cash in on someone else’s misfortune. Why hold a press conference for a rare occurrence by some lunatic when we have drug houses operating openly in our neighborhoods and all the police will offer is coffee. How about stopping theft, break ins, home invasions and the drug markets before trying to focus the medias attention on antioch in such a negative way?

Harper now reminds me of Al Sharpton.
This is just a campaign move. He knows he lost in the debates Tuesday night so has to turn the attention.

Are you talking about the mayor candidate debates? Is it available online?
It is not online or on the community station. Tonight the live debate is with the school board candidates at city hall at 7pm. The one on Tuesday was a full house, standing room only so tonight might be the same.

He would be damned if he didn’t do anything as well. Since it is such “rare occurrence”, and such a heinous crime I think he is right to take a stand on it. He is letting everyone know that Antioch won’t stand for this.
But Antioch will stand for the tremendous amount of crime? Harper is an opportunist, never addressing the real ongoing issues.
