On Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at 1:57 PM, Antioch Police Officers were dispatched to the report of a possible residential burglary in progress. A witness observed three male subjects enter the rear window of a neighbors house in the 2000 block of Reseda Drive, while a fourth subject was waiting outside as a look out. As police were arriving, the subjects exited the house and entered into a waiting vehicle. Arriving officers located the vehicle and attempted to catch up to it to attempt a car stop but the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed.

Officers located the vehicle on a nearby court where all four occupants fled on foot and began jumping fences into the surround neighborhood. A perimeter was quickly set up and three of the four subjects were located and arrested, including Kelvaugh Wells, age 22 and two 16-year-old males. The fourth subject is still outstanding and is described as a black male 17-20 years old with a thin build and shoulder length dreadlocks with blonde tips.

Property taken from the residence was located inside the suspect vehicle which included several firearms.

The Juveniles were sent to Juvenile Hall while Wells was sent to the Martinez Detention Facility.

The Golden State Warriors did it! They won the NBA championship for the first time since 1975, by defeating LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers at their home, by a score of 105-97 Tuesday night. Andre Iguodala was awarded the MVP award for the series, after scoring 25 points during Game 6, helping the Dubs to beat the Cavs four games to two.

The championship parade and rally will be held in Oakland beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday. Following is the information from the Warriors website:

Parade To Start At 10:00 A.M. At Broadway & 11th With Rally To Follow at Henry J. Kaiser Convention Center

“The Golden State Warriors and the City of Oakland will host a parade and rally to honor the 2014-15 NBA Champion Golden State Warriors on Friday, June 19, 2015, beginning at 10:00 a.m. The parade will begin on Broadway at 11th Street, turning right on Grand Avenue, and right on Harrison to Lakeside Drive, ending on Oak and proceeding to the Henry J. Kaiser Convention Center for the Rally.

Fans can begin to line up for the Rally as early as 5:00 a.m. at Lakeshore and 12th Street.

BART will run extra trains through Oakland all day and will modify routes to accommodate parade and rally attendants. Pay close attention to signage and BART employee directions.

Friends and customers of Jeremy “Lumpy” Sturgill, owner of Lumpy’s Diner in Antioch and Pittsburg, and Lumpy’s Express in Brentwood, mourned his passing, via social media, on Tuesday morning just after 8:00 a.m.

Flowers were placed at the door of the Antioch location, and a sign on the window there stated “Lumpy’s Diner will be closed until further notice.” However, both the Brentwood and Pittsburg locations were open on Tuesday.

The business’ website provides information about Sturgill and his business:

“Lumpy’s Diner was built in 2008 by Jeremy (Lumpy) Sturgill. He grew up in the restaurant industry. His parents created Digger’s Diner in Concord, CA. Lumpy started running that diner at the age of 14. After dedicating his life to the business, it was time for him to strike out on his own path. With the first Lumpy’s Diner being built in 2008, two more locations followed shortly after.

The Pittsburg Lumpy’s became the second location and after noticing a huge demand for the quality of food and service Lumpy expects, the idea to streamline the process and create a faster, over the counter version of Lumpy’s Diner was born. That extension of this brand is Lumpy’s Diner Express. The first LDX, as we like to refer to it, was opened in 2012 in Brentwood, Ca.

So much has changed for Lumpy since beginning his exciting adventure… he met a woman who truly is his companion, she helps him in every way. That woman is Marci and the two got married in 2011. As life tends to be, the two quickly had their first child and welcomed Jaxx into the family, November of 2012. This family has worked together, hand and hand, to make Lumpy’s Diner and Lumpy’s Diner Express the best locally owned restaurant in the East Bay.

Lumpy’s was known for their burgers, as well as their car, truck and bike shows and burger eating contests. Sturgill was known for his generosity, having his business sponsor Christmas toy drives with former 49er Jeremy Newberry.

On his Facebook page, Newberry wrote “R.I.P. Lump. You will be missed by many.”

Others posted photos they had taken with Sturgill, including one with East Bay Regional Parks Director Diane Burgis and her family.

Maria Lazzerini, the night manager at the Deer Valley Safeway in Antioch, wrote “R.I.P Lumpy! You will be missed! The community has lost of of the most caring and giving guys!! Way too young! Prayers to his family.”

Referring to a fundraiser held at Lumpy’s, for her daughter who had a brain tumor, Lazzerini added, “So young and so caring. He…was always so giving with the communities fundraiser, including Alison’s.”

“RIP Lumpy Sturgill,” wrote Doug Knowles who posted additional photos and a TV commercial for Lumpy’s on his Facebook Page. “You and Your Family are in our Thoughts and Prayers.”

A GoFundMe page has been set up by LaTasha Renée, entitled The Sturgill Family Fund.  By 5:00 p.m., on Tuesday, the goal of $10,000 had been surpassed by $1,570. Following is the message on that page:

“Last night our Fit Family member and friend, Marci Sturgill and their 2 boys, suffered a devastating loss and the earth lost an angel. Lumpy, beloved husband, son, father and owner of Lumpy’s Diner passed away.

Lumpy was known and valued for all he gave to others and for the friend and business owner he was in our community. He loved his family and his infectious smile, his passion for his customers and for his business will be missed

Please consider making a donation to help The Sturgill Family. They need the community that Lumpy so willing loved on to give back in an effort to help ease the financial pain that this devastating loss can cause a family that is self employed. The Arts & Cultural Foundation, once again in partnership with the Antioch Historical Society, will host the 10th Annual Celebration of Art 2015 Exhibit at the Antioch Historical Society Museum. Now one game away from their first NBA Championship in 40 years

What a difference a week can make.

This time last week Cleveland was up 2-1 on the Golden State Warriors and the name on a constant loop was Cavaliers guard Matthew Dellavedova, the Australian savior, and St. Mary’s grad, who shut down the scoring machine of the Babyface Assassin, Warriors MVP Stephen Curry in Games 2 and 3.

But that was last week, and now the Warriors are one game away from their first NBA championship in 40 years beating the Cavs before another sellout crowd at ORACLE by the score of 104-91, Sunday night, jumping to a 3-2 series lead.

Playing like the team we’ve come to know with the best record in the league, the Warriors were led by Curry as he re-established himself as the league’s MVP scoring 37-points, while Draymond Green chipped in 16-points.

LeBron James carried his team all across the board finishing with another triple-double; 40-points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists but his ‘court’ couldn’t hold the Golden State down with four of the Warriors starters finishing in double-digits. Dellavadeova would be held to only five points.

Unlike the Cavaliers, the Warriors have a wide range of players they can depend on, on any given night. But head coach Steve Kerr still wants them to keep their confidence and stay the course heading into Tuesday’s game.

“It’s a very confident group,” he said. “They’ve had a heck of a season and they’re playing obviously at a high level. So they feel very confident. Sometimes we’re a little too confident and we get a little carried away.”

The locker room presence of the Warriors has not changed from the regular season. There isn’t a sense of ‘we got this.’ But, when Curry has participated in interviews he has spoken of ‘it’ and ‘when’ they win it all. Yet, if James has anything to say about it they will be playing a Game 7 and he will do all that he can to even the series at home.

“We don’t want them celebrating at all, no matter if it’s on our home floor or on their home floor. We’ve come this far, and we’ve been very good at home,” James said slowly and deliberately after the game, making it clear that he wouldn’t go down without a fight.

Iman Shumpert and J.R. Smith who came in a trade to the Cavs in February, from the Knicks haven’t had the type of appearances that were expected of them coming into this series, in comparison to how they played in the Atlanta series. They would play better than Dellavedova finishing Sunday’s game with Shumpert, who’s been nursing a shoulder injury, finishing with 10 points and Smith coming off the bench with 14 points.

“He’s a big reason we’re here,” said Cavs head coach David Blatt of Smith pre-game when asked about how he would use him and Shumpert in the game.

Despite the lack of energy the Cavs displayed, they still played the Warriors hard and tough and the score did not reflect the type of game they brought.

“I just felt the need that if we’re going to win and we’re going to turn this series around, that that needed to be stated not only to the team, but to the world, because we were completely getting outworked, out hustled, out dogged, however you want to put it,” said Draymond Green of the way the Warriors had been playing prior to their last two games. Green broke out of his slump going 4-for-9 from the field with five assists, one 3-pointer and 16 points.

There are a maximum of only two games left in this exciting series. Game 6 is in Cleveland and begins at 6:00 p.m. Pacific on Tuesday, June 16 on ABC. Should there be a need for a Game 7, tip-off will be this Friday at 6:00 p.m. also on ABC.

● Golden State had its 134h consecutive sellout at ORACLE.

● Curry scored a team high 37-points his highest so far of the Finals. He scored the most points by a Warrior in the NBA Finals since Rick Barry (38) on 5/23/75.

● Lebron James scored his 14th career playoff triple-double (40 pts, 14 reb, 11ast) his second of The 2015 NBA Finals.

If everything is hunky dory with your credit cards—paying the balance each month, paying on time, and keeping expenditures below 30% of your available credit, and whatever I’ve been nagging you about—you can get a card charging you 0% interest on purchases for a specified period.

That’s right, 0%. Their motives are not altruistic, what did you expect? They hope you’ll put everything on the card; it’s a cuddly stuffed tiger that could morph into the monster under your bed.

Since I advocate paying credit card debit in full each month, why would I recommend a 0% credit card? Because that classic bumper strip is right, things happen. The roof she is leaking and the rain is coming in, or your car’s oil leak is more than a bother. Or it could be something enjoyable: a vacation or a root canal.

You might see ads about them or go online and enter “0% on purchases” and be inundated. Of course, that’s the easy part. The essential part is figuring out how you’re going to pay the piper because at the end you’re going to dance to his tune.

You should have funds to pay for your purchases immediately from an interest bearing account (You have one, right?). But you can open a 0% on-purchases card and keep funds in the interest bearing account. If you make one big purchase you divide it by the number of months of the 0% and set up automatic payments from your bank account. Or, if you are very sure of yourself you can make the minimum payment until closing time when you have to pay the bar tab.

Eve if you have not yet arrived at the ideal state of paying the balance in full each month, and are still paying interest (but working toward the ideal goal), the 0% balance card can be useful, but with all credit cards, danger lurks.

Sometimes the offer includes a pitch for a balance transfer at 0% interest. The catch is they charge you a one-time fee, typically 3% or 4%, which ends being more because you pay it up front; and then poof! It’s gone and won’t come back even if you pay it off tomorrow. So don’t go there.

I keep seeking interest-bearing accounts. Patelco Credit Union (membership available to anyone who lives, works, goes to school, or worships, in Contra Costa County) offers a money market account of 3% on the first $2,000.

It goes down from there until it reaches the puny amount most banks pay, but for $10,00 the “blended interest” is 1.7 %, which is more than the current inflation rate. Depositors are limited to six withdrawals a month. The deposit is federally insured. it can change it any time, without notifying you.

Or you could get a CD. Bankrate.com lists several with an annual percentage rate of about 1.2%. That could be ideal to stash money for your 0% purchase card. A CD rate can’t change (but there are penalties for early withdrawals).
