By Sergeant T. Schnitzius, Antioch Police Field Services Bureau

On Thursday, February 28, 2013 at 12:58 p.m., Antioch Police responded to a call of a vehicle accident on Flagstone at Boulder Drive for a garbage truck that struck a power pole. Upon arrival officers found the driver of the garbage truck was in the process of lowering the front dump bin when he struck the overhead power lines causing them to arc. The energized lines caught the truck and its contents on fire.

Con-Fire responded to put out the fire while PG&E responded to sever power. Several houses were temporarily evacuated as a precautionary measure. There were no injuries as a result of the incident and no damage to any structures. Approximately 40 houses lost power as a result of the incident with an estimated time of 6-7PM before power would be restored.
