Squatters in Antioch Home Issue Restraining Order Against Real Estate Agent – Seriously!

By Allen Payton, Publisher

According to a KTVU, Channel 2 news report, squatters in a vacant home in Antioch have issued a restraining order against real estate agent Melissa Case who has the property listed for sale. Now she can’t be within 50 feet of the house.

Thanks to Antioch Herald reader Maria Pia for the heads up on this story.

Here’s the question that must be answered – who was the judge that approved the restraining order? Not only should the squatters be thrown out, so should that judge!

Same thing is happening on my block right now and it’s devastating the microcommunity we’ve formed on our street. At least 3 neighbors have complained and even the bank that owns the house has tried to get the police to step in. About 20 people are living there and there doesn’t seem to be much that we can do about it. Last week, I caught one of them stealing in my backyard, a month ago I caught another one stealing from a neighbor. The house right across the street from them has been used to help recovering drug addicts for the last 2 years, now they’re having to try and find new solutions because the environment next door is so toxic. Not only does this problem ruin the house that they are living in, but it has a measurable impact on the quality of life in the neighborhood. As more and more good people move away, it creates even more vacancies in Antioch for these squatters to exploit.

UNBELIEVABLE!!! What is wrong with our courts? Since when do squatters have rights to property that they neither own or rent?

What next? A restraining order against the County Sheriff evicting them?

There is a bizarre scenario playing out in Antioch where a realtor has been issued a restraining order for trying to sell a home which stems from squatters. I would urge the leaders of Antioch, County Supervisors, and State leaders to get behind Melissa Case and demand that the current restraining order be dropped, erased from her record, and the judge be scolded for a bad decision.
