East County Idol on Friday, April 20

The Antioch Music Foundation sponsors the fourth rendition of the East County Idol this Friday, April 20th at 7:30 p.m. at the El Campanil Theatre.

Auditions were held at the Somersville Towne Centre and the best of the best, twenty-one singers, were chosen for the finals from fifteen area competing high schools.

Come cheer on our aspiring super-stars on as they strut their stuff and sing their hearts out for bragging rights as the next East County Idol. Neyshia Go, 2006 winner went on to the top 50 of the American Idol contest. Who knows if one of these performers will be a future American Idol or X-Factor winner?

To spice things up, $750.00 in prize money will be awarded. All contestants are stars for coming this far and will receive certificates of recognition from State Assemblywoman Susan Bonilla, Board of Supervisor Federal Glover and Antioch Mayor Jim Davis.

The performers will be Idara Akpakpa, Katelyn Allen, Kayla Arroyo (with Drake Miller on guitar), Jakeb LeRoy Baird, Zoe Blalock, Nicholas Crossan, Madeline Durling, Enrique Guzman, Morgan Handy, Marissa LaMantia, Marcus Lance, Bianca Panoligan, Andie Paredes, Angelina Phelan (with Kathleen Flemming on piano), Cayson Renshaw, Jackie Richardson, Hailey Schneider, Patrick Velasquez, Raina Vizcarra, Rachel Wirtz and Victoria Young.

They will entertain us in a wide array of genres including ballads, Broadway, country, folk, gospel, jazz, pop and rock.

Emceeing will be jazz performer Malcolm Hunter. Guest performers will be 2008 winner Chanelle Lewis and 2010 runner-up Ashley Goins.

Doing photography will be Luns Louie and videotaping will be Greg Enholm. Marshalling the hopefully not too nervous contestants in the off-stage green room will be Antioch Music Foundation Board members Linda Thompson and Sharon Vela.

The event has been sponsored over the years thru the generous assistance of Supervisor Federal Glover in securing grants from Keller Canyon Mitigation Fund, Cal-Pine Corporation and GenOn Corporation.

Tickets are $10.00 for adults, $5.00 for students. Any excess funds go to cash-strapped school music programs. For tickets visit the El Campanil Theatre box office 10-3 , call Walter Ruehlig at (925) 756-7628, or buy at the door.
