Bicyclist Injured in Accident

On July 11, 2011 at 6:56 p.m. Antioch police received a call about an injury accident involving a bicyclist at the intersection of Hillcrest Avenue and Bellflower Drive. When officers arrived they found a 23-year-old Antioch woman on the ground who appeared to have a serious head injury.

Several witnesses said the bicyclist had been traveling southbound on Bellflower Drive at a high rate of speed. As she approached the intersection of Hillcrest Avenue, she failed to stop and continued across Hillcrest Avenue until colliding with the center median and was thrown from the bike.

There were vehicles traveling in both directions on Hillcrest Avenue, but she did not hit any of them. She was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. She was transported by helicopter to a local hospital where she is in critical condition.

Dumb, dumb, dumb. Many of us have seen bicyclists who fail to follow the DMV rules, which also apply to bicyclists. Gee, I wonder if the police will cite her for failing to stop at an intersection?

I hope that bicyclists do not hang up their bikes after this rare incident. There are two sides to every story and I am sure she has something to say about her mishaps. I am sure she is NOT 100% at fault. The bicyclist was probably avoiding that person texting-while-driving, then sacrificed her and her bike into the center-divide. Motorists do it everyday.
Too bad we will NOT hear the bicyclists side of the story. Shame shame.

It is my understanding that the brakes malfunctioned on the bike as they do on vehicles. What is “dumb” (as you put it), is your display of insensitivity and your pompous attitude toward an accident victim. WOW! Some people comments should never make it pass the minimal thought the give before they make them.
