Antioch Auto Center Tom Nokes presents a check for $100,000 to Mayor Jim Davis and Councilmembers

Tom Nokes, owner of the Antioch Auto Center presented the City Council with a $100,000 check at the Tuesday, May 22, 2012 council meeting as part of a promise to match the city’s fundraising efforts.

Although the city did not raise quite the $100,000 that Nokes and his son Brian Nokes pledged to match – Tom said they would support the city any way they could and presented the full $100,000 anyway.

City Council Members were heavy in praise for all that Nokes and the Auto Center had done for the city.

Kalinowski said he thought the Auto Center single handedly kept Antioch out of bankruptcy during the last few troubled years and said that the best way for residences to support the city was to shop at the Auto Center.

Mayor Davis said “we appreciate everything you do,” and Council Member Mary Rocha said Nokes “represents the spirit of Antioch.”

An effort by the Antioch Police Department and interested citizens has raised $9,000 toward their goal of $10,000 to pay for a new police dog.

On Sunday, May 20, 2012 at 12:45 p.m., a 29 year old male Oakley resident was traveling eastbound on a Honda motorcycle from Golf Course Road onto Bluerock Drive with a green signal light for his direction. At that same time, a 34 year old female Oakley resident driving a Toyota Highlander was traveling northbound on Lone Tree Way and failed to stop for a red signal light for her direction. The Toyota struck the Honda motorcycle broadside ejecting the motorcyclist into the street and sending the motorcycle to the curb.

The motorcyclist sustained severe lower leg injuries to both legs and was flown to John Muir Medical Center by helicopter for emergency treatment. Although severe, his injuries do not appear to be life threatening at this time. There were no injuries reported by the occupants of the Toyota.

There are no indications that alcohol or drugs were related to this collision.

At 11:00 p.m. On Monday, May 14, 2012, an 18 year old female showed up in the emergency room at Sutter Delta Medical Center with multiple stab wounds. According to the woman, she was walking on Cavallo Road near Sunset Drive when she was attacked by an unknown assailant. She was stabbed multiple times before she broke free and ran away. She then walked to the hospital to seek treatment. The victim is being treated at an area hospital and is in stable condition with what appear to be non life-threatening injuries. There are some indicators that this may be a gang related case. The investigation is ongoing at the time of this writing.

On Sunday, May 13, 2012 at approximately 2:21 pm, Antioch police officers responded to a report of a shooting in the area of W. 10th Street and Auto Center Drive. As officers arrived in the area, they were advised that the victim had driven to his home nearby. Officers went to the victim’s home where they found him awake and alert but suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

The 29-year-old victim was later transported to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. It was learned the victim was shot while driving his car near the intersection at W. 10th Street and Auto Center Drive. The intersection was closed down for approximately 30 minutes while officers collected evidence at that location. Police are still in the process of determining the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Justin Reis and Brian Lloyd

On Tuesday, May 8, 2012,the Antioch Police Investigations Unit conducted a probation search on Justin Reis at his home in the 5400 block of Prewett Ranch Drive. Antioch detectives found the 34-year-old Reis carrying a suitcase from his home to a car parked in front of the home. The detectives contacted Reis and found the suitcase to contain over 10 lbs. of marijuana. Reis was arrested for the marijuana and the Detectives searched his home. The detectives found two additional pounds of marijuana in the home, along with evidence of marijuana sales and cultivation.

In conducting their investigation, the detectives were lead to another house in Antioch. The second house, in the 3500 block of Waxwing Way, was found to contain a large scale indoor marijuana cultivation. The detectives obtained a search warrant for the location and found 25-year-old Brian Lloyd inside the home along with five pounds of marijuana and 836 marijuana plants growing in the home.

Detectives determined that the power had been diverted and was bypassing the PG&E meters at both locations. The theft of power being stolen from PG&E was estimated to be in excess of $20,000.

Both Reis and Lloyd were arrested on various drug charges.

Above are the composite drawings of two of the suspects from the April 26^th kidnapping and robbery of the taxi driver in Antioch. Antioch Police have recovered significant evidence from the taxi which will assist in identifying the responsible parties.

Police are also looking for the public’s help in identifying the suspects depicted in the composite drawings. It is believed these suspects may have ties to Antioch and Oakland, specifically the area where the taxi was recovered in the 2200 hundred block of 83^rd Ave in Oakland.

On Thursday, May 2, 2012 at approximately 1:43 p.m., Antioch police officers responded to a report of an armed robbery in the parking lot of Wells Fargo Bank at the corner of 18th Street and A Street.

The victim reported to officers that he was arriving at the bank to make a deposit when he was accosted by two suspects in a white sedan, one of whom was armed with a handgun. The suspects took the victim’s cash before fleeing the scene. The victim was uninjured during the robbery, and the suspects were not located. There is no indication that the bank or any of the bank employees were targeted in this incident. The case is still under investigation.
