On Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at approximately 7:20 AM workers from the Antioch Corporation Yard on West 4th Street reported finding a man on the roof of one of their buildings, bleeding from the neck. The man asked for help and the police were called. The male (Victim 1), an Antioch resident, stated he and his brother had been kidnapped at gunpoint by Ernan Hediberto Montiel. The brother was later found safe at his workplace in Pittsburg. (Victim 2).

Montiel was upset that Victim 1 may have had a relationship with his estranged wife. Montiel kidnapped Victim 2 from his home in Antioch in order to find Victim 1. Once Victim 1 was located, Montiel let Victim 2 go.

An argument started while Montiel was driving Victim 1 back to Antioch, and Montiel produced a knife. He began slashing at Victim1, cutting him on the neck. Victim 1, fearing for his life, jumped out of the car while it was moving. While running away he heard a single gunshot. He was not hit by the gunfire. He then climbed onto the roof of the Corporation Yard and waited for help. Victim 1 was treated for his injuries and released.

Montiel has not been located, and should be considered armed and dangerous. He was last seen driving a 2000, gray, Nissan Maxima with a California license plate of 6HLP460 or Washington plate AFZ0446. He may be traveling to Washington State. Montiel is also wanted for a drug warrant out of Antioch.

On Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at 7:45 p.m., a detective from the Antioch Police Department was flagged down by two subjects standing next to a stopped vehicle at the intersection of Wilbur Avenue and A Street in Antioch.

Both victims, a 19 year old Antioch resident and a 47 year old Pittsburg resident, had apparent gunshot wounds and were yelling for assistance. The vehicle they were standing near also had several bullet holes in it.

The shooting did not occur at this location and both victims were somewhat uncooperative. They were both transported by ambulance to local hospitals with non life threatening wounds.

The investigation is ongoing and the location of the actual shooting is unknown at this time.

The Antioch Police Department is investigating a shooting death that occurred on Saturday morning, June 9, 2012 in the intersection of West 9^th and I Streets. Two men were shot, and one died at the scene. The deceased victim’s name is being withheld pending the notification of his family members.

Police received the call at 2:42 a.m. The shooting occurred after a graduation party at a nearby residence.

This information is preliminary as the investigation is still on-going.

On June 8, 2012 the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office filed murder charges against Damian Bradley (born 10/2/1987) in the shooting

death of 20-year-old Dimontai Glaspie on October 8, 2011. Bradley is from San Francisco and Antioch. DNA matches and witness identification positively identified Bradley as the shooter in this case.

Bradley has an extensive criminal history. He was arrested for this case and a parole violation on May 18, 2012 in Antioch. He is being held at the Martinez Detention Facility.

On October 8, 2011, Antioch Police Officers responded to 2327 Dogwood Way in Antioch on a report of man who had been shot. Upon their arrivals, officers found Glaspie in front of a home with gunshot wounds. He was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A second suspect is still being sought by police.

On Thursday, June 7, 2012 at 7:58 p.m., Antioch Police Officers responded to reports of gunshots in the area of Sycamore Drive and Mandarin Way.  Upon arrival, officers located a female victim lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to the leg. The female was transported to an area hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Initial investigation revealed there were two groups of subjects arguing in the street when multiple gunshots were fired from at least two weapons. All subjects fled prior to police arrival.

The Contra Costa Sheriff’s helicopter was used to assist in an area search for those responsible with negative results.

It appears that the victim was not involved in the fight but standing nearby and hit by a stray bullet.

The investigation is ongoing at the time of this writing.

Antioch Auto Center Tom Nokes presents a check for $100,000 to Mayor Jim Davis and Councilmembers

Tom Nokes, owner of the Antioch Auto Center presented the City Council with a $100,000 check at the Tuesday, May 22, 2012 council meeting as part of a promise to match the city’s fundraising efforts.

Although the city did not raise quite the $100,000 that Nokes and his son Brian Nokes pledged to match – Tom said they would support the city any way they could and presented the full $100,000 anyway.

City Council Members were heavy in praise for all that Nokes and the Auto Center had done for the city.

Kalinowski said he thought the Auto Center single handedly kept Antioch out of bankruptcy during the last few troubled years and said that the best way for residences to support the city was to shop at the Auto Center.

Mayor Davis said “we appreciate everything you do,” and Council Member Mary Rocha said Nokes “represents the spirit of Antioch.”

An effort by the Antioch Police Department and interested citizens has raised $9,000 toward their goal of $10,000 to pay for a new police dog.

On Sunday, May 20, 2012 at 12:45 p.m., a 29 year old male Oakley resident was traveling eastbound on a Honda motorcycle from Golf Course Road onto Bluerock Drive with a green signal light for his direction. At that same time, a 34 year old female Oakley resident driving a Toyota Highlander was traveling northbound on Lone Tree Way and failed to stop for a red signal light for her direction. The Toyota struck the Honda motorcycle broadside ejecting the motorcyclist into the street and sending the motorcycle to the curb.

The motorcyclist sustained severe lower leg injuries to both legs and was flown to John Muir Medical Center by helicopter for emergency treatment. Although severe, his injuries do not appear to be life threatening at this time. There were no injuries reported by the occupants of the Toyota.

There are no indications that alcohol or drugs were related to this collision.
