At approximately 10:43 a.m., this morning, the Antioch Police Department responded to a bomb threat at Deer Valley High School.  Officers responded and conducted a thorough search of the campus with Deer Valley High staff. Nothing was located.  School staff made the decision to evacuate the campus while the search was being conducted, but the school has since resumed normal operations (as of 1:24 p.m.).  At this time, this case appears to be unrelated to the bomb threat called in yesterday; however, both incidents are still under investigation.

One parent of a student at the high school, who was visiting the campus for the Every 15 Minutes program, stated in an email to this paper, “school made some kind of  announcement today that if another bomb scare is reported that the school will be closed for w weeks and be made up at the end of the school year.”

UPDATE 4/24/13. 10:00 AM – According to Superintendent Don Gill, last night, know that there were no active or inactive bombs found on campus. But they did trace the call to a throw-away phone they found on campus. It’s a felony and considered a terrorist threat to make such a call. So the student who did so will be expelled and face charges.

In response to rumors that both inactive and active bombs were found by a bomb tech on campus, Dr. Gill responded.

“It’s not true that any active or inactive bombs found. I would have been called by Principal Ken Gardner or the police,” Gill stated. “We would never, ever withhold that kind of information. That needs to be out.”

“It’s a felony to make these kind of threats. It’s considered a terrorist threat under California law and extremely disruptive to the school,” Gill added. “If it’s a student they will be expelled and they will be turned over to the police. It’s serious stuff. It’s not a prank. We have to take the threat seriously.”

Police were able to trace the call back to the campus, but it came from an unidentified number, probably from a disposable cell phone.

Following is the automated phone message sent out to parents of students at Deer Valley High:

“This is an auto-dialer message sent Tuesday evening, April 23rd from Mr. Gardner, Principal of Deer Valley High School.

For the second day in row the school received a vague and anonymous bomb threat via telephone. We have reason to suspect that this may have been called in by a student believing this to be a simple prank. Please help us in communicating to your child that such calls are considered terrorist threats as defined under California Penal Code. A false threat is a serious crime and, if convicted, the individual will be liable for all costs incurred as a result of the threat. Additionally, the student will face mandatory expulsion per the California Education Code. Currently, we are working with the police to identify the caller or callers but, in the meantime, I wanted to make sure that all of our students are aware of the seriousness of making such a call. We will also be communicating this message with all students tomorrow via DVTV.

Before ending this call I want to sincerely thank our parent community for their outpouring of support during this difficult time. Overall parents were very understanding of our inability to release students prior to receiving the all clear from police and we have received a number of calls offering support. As always, please do not hesitate to call our office should you have any information, questions, or concerns.”

On April 9th, 2013 at approximately 10:39 p.m., the Antioch Police Department responded to a shooting occurring inside a residence located in the 2500 block of Yorkshire Drive. Upon our arrival, we located two adult females, ages 22 and 46, inside the residence suffering from gunshot wounds. A third male gunshot victim, age 23, was found deceased inside the residence. The two females were transported to a local hospital and are currently in stable condition.

The incident is still under investigation at this time.

On Monday, April 1, 2013 at 4:17 p.m., Antioch Police Officers responded to a residence on William Reed Drive after receiving a call of multiple gun shots fired into the back yard of the residence. A seven year-old boy was struck by one round and transported to Children’s Hospital with a non-life threatening injury. The child and his parents were visiting from out of town for a BBQ. No other persons were injured.

Information developed during the investigation shows the responsible fired multiple rounds into the rear yard from an area near the G Street over crossing.

Antioch Police are currently investigating a homicide that occurred at 12:22 pm, on Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at the intersection of William Reed and W. Madill. The victim is a 20 year-old male, Antioch resident. The victim was shot multiple times.

More details are expected, some time on Thursday.

The Antioch Police Department is asking for the public’s help to assist in their continuing efforts to find or identify citizens who have been reported missing or that are unidentified.

In late April, 1988 a citizen called the Antioch Police Department to report a decomposing body that was found off of Somersville Road, in a gulley, just south of Buchanan Road. Ultimately, the circumstances at the time did not lead to any indication of homicide or other felonious assault. An investigation to identify the subject has been ongoing ever since.

Antioch Police investigators responded to the area and located a body that had appeared to have been there for several weeks. The subject was determined to be a black female adult, near 40 years of age (approximately 35 to 45 years of age), and about 5’04” tall. The female’s weight was unable to be determined.

Of particular note: she was wearing a light pink knit long sleeved sweater with thin horizontal light blue stripes and a cloth collar; Levi’s blue jeans over grey sweats; brown socks; and light blue Nike tennis shoes with a white Nike “swoosh” symbol on them. On her left wrist she was wearing a gold watch with a maroon face, and she had on a thin gold necklace, with a gold pendant. The pendant was of the block letter “F”. Some keys were found in the area. There were (2) key rings with (3) Ford automobile keys, (3) miscellaneous keys, (1) oversized diaper pin, and (1) metal letter “F” with a blue face.

On Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at 8:42 a.m., Antioch Police responded to a call of a male shot in the 600 block of W. 19th Street. Upon arrival at the scene no victims were located. Several spent shell casings were located in the street. A short time later the Antioch Police were notified the victim had arrived at a nearby area hospital with a single non-life threatening gunshot wound. He is being treated and expected to make a full recovery.

Officers were unable to locate any homes or vehicles on scene that had any damage from gunfire. As of the time of this writing no other victims have been located.

On Monday, March 3, 2013 at approximately 9:30 pm, Antioch Police received multiple calls of shots fired in the 1700 block of Lipton Street. Upon officer’s arrival, they learned that someone had opened fire on an occupied vehicle in a garage of a residence. Any suspect or suspect vehicle descriptions were very limited and nothing is being released at this time.

One 19 year old male resident of San Francisco was injured during this shooting and is being treated at an undisclosed hospital. He is expected to survive.The motive for this shooting is unknown at this time as the investigation is ongoing.

On Friday, February 15 at 12:56 p.m., Antioch Police officers were dispatched to a possible fight in the parking lot of the Burger King located at 4620 Lone Tree Way. Prior to officers’ arrival, dispatch received information from a caller that one of the involved parties shot himself in the leg.

Preliminary information indicates during the confrontation, a 15 year-old Antioch resident attempted to retrieve a gun he had concealed in his waistband and accidentally shot himself. The male was transported to a local hospital with apparent non-life threatening injuries.

This investigation is still ongoing and no further information is available at this time.
