Antioch husband and wife arrested for sexual abuse and child endangerment

On Tuesday, June 9, 2013 at approximately 8:54 AM, the Antioch Police Department arrested Antioch residents Johnny and Carol Montanez during a traffic stop on Hwy 4 and Lone Tree Way in the city of Antioch. Johnny Montanez was arrested on multiple counts of sexual assault and Carol was arrested for child endangerment. The arrests came after an investigation into allegations of physical and sexual abuse by Johnny and Carol Montanez, both age 38, on multiple members of their own family.

The case was brought before the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office on Thursday, July 11, and both suspects have been charged for their crimes. Johnny Montanez is currently being held in Contra Costa County on $6,000,000 bail and Carol Montanez is being held on $250,000 bail. The case is still being investigated by the Antioch Police Department’s Investigations Bureau. No other information concerning this case will be released at this time.

Two men arrested for large marijuana cultivation in Antioch

Investigators were called in and ultimately seized approximately 300 marijuana plants from the home along with over 100 lbs. of processed marijuana which has a street value of approximately $300,000.

The case is still being investigated by the Antioch Police Department’s Special Operations Unit.

Suspect in June murder of elderly Antioch man arrested in Washington

The suspect in the murder of 71-year-old Antioch resident Ronald Henry Rush on June 11, 2013 on Horseshoe Circle in Antioch, Ruslin Bazelyan, was located and taken into custody with the assistance of the U.S. Marshall’s Office on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 in the area of Vancouver, Washington. He was taken into custody without incident.

Arrests made in Sunday’s stabbing death in Antioch

Several arrests have been made in relation to the stabbing/beating death of Daniel Ingram. All of those arrested are all Antioch residents: Vincent Basulto (11/13/94), Joshua Thayn (6/17/78), Rose Basulto (7/8/81) and Lynn Jaeger (7/10/59) – photos below.

The Antioch Police Department will be seeking charges with the DA’s office. Currently Vincent Basulto is being held for murder. Thayn, R. Basulto, and Jaeger are all being held on accessory charges. This homicide appears to have happened because of an argument over alleged stolen tools.

Man found dead in Antioch on Sunday morning, second murder in city in two days

On Sunday, June 30, 2013 at 3:01 a.m. the Antioch Police Department responded to a stabbing at a residence in the 5000 block of Rodeo Circle. There, they found a 54-year-man, deceased, suffering from multiple stab wounds.

This investigation is ongoing by detectives.

Man shot in head in Antioch on Saturday, dies later at hospital

On Saturday, June 29, 2013 at 9:34 a.m., the Antioch Police Department received several calls of shots being fired in the 2100 block of Spanos Street near Sycamore Drive. As officers were arriving, they were advised that a man had been shot in the head. They located the victim, a 42 year old Antioch resident, on the porch of his apartment, with a gunshot wound to his head. The victim was transported to an area hospital where he later died from his injury.

Coincidentally, this same victim was also shot the previous day, at the same location, at 11:03 am. On Friday, June 28, 2013 the victim received a grazing wound to his back and a gunshot wound to his leg. He was uncooperative with officers at that time and gave no information as to who had shot him.

Detectives were called out and are investigating both shootings.

Antioch police ask public’s help to find murder suspect

The Antioch Police Department is requesting the public’s help in locating a suspect in a homicide that occurred on Tuesday, June 11, 2013. The victim was a 71-year-old male named Ronald Henry Rush who was killed in his home, 4405 Horseshoe Circle in Antioch, sometime around June 10th and June 11th of 2013. The victim was killed as a result of blunt force trauma to the head.

The investigation has revealed that Ruslan Yaroslavovich Bazelyan had befriended the victim sometime around the beginning of June, 2013. Since that time, the victim had been allowing Bazelyan to stay at his residence for at least a week before the homicide. Following the homicide, Bazelyan fled the location with the victim’s car and cell phone. It is believed that Bazelyan is either in the Sacramento or San Francisco area possibly doing work as an auto mechanic or auto body repairman.

The Antioch Police Department currently holds a warrant for Bazelyan’s arrest for the charges of murder and vehicle theft.

The vehicle is a metallic gold 2008 BMW 328i 2 door hard top convertible. The vehicle has personalized California license plates of: FOXRHR.

This vehicle is currently listed at stolen.

Bazelyan is a 21-year-old white male adult. He is a Russian immigrant who came to this country as a refugee from the Ukraine in 2003. He is approximately 6-feet tall and weighs approximately 160 lbs. He has brown hair and green eyes. Bazelyan does speak English but talks with a Russian accent. During his time with the victim, Bazelyan claimed his name was “Alex” which was later determined to be a false name.

Amber alert issued, then canceled for 11-month-old Antioch girl abducted by father, but later returned safe, on Monday

On Monday, June 24, 2013 at 10:19 AM, the Antioch Police Department responded to a call of shots fired in the area of Rainier Lane and Sunset Lane. Upon arrival, it was learned that during a domestic dispute the victim (11-month-old Justice Alasheia Benton) was abducted by her father (24-year-old Joshua Elijah Benton) and taken from the residence. As Benton was leaving, it was reported that he fired one shot into the air from a handgun and got in on the passenger side of the above listed vehicle and fled the area.

Justice was wearing pink pajamas and the vehicle was described as a dark green Dodge Caravan or Plymouth with tinted back windows.

An Amber alert was subsequently initiated for the abduction of Justice Benton. Joshua Benton is considered to be armed and dangerous.

As a result of the Amber alert put out by CHP, Antioch Police officers received information regarding Joshua Benton’s whereabouts. Benton was subsequently located a short distance from his residence holding baby Justice and being followed by family members. Upon seeing police officers, Benton handed the baby to a family member and then fled on foot. An extensive area check was completed; however, Benton was not located.
