Antioch Police announced on Facebook, this week, the hiring of three new police officers who were sworn to the force.

“Please say hello to the three newest members of the Antioch Police Department family. Chief Cantando (second from right) stands with Officer Mike Perez, Officer Ken Krein, and Officer Scott Duggar. We welcome you with open arms!” the post stated.

On Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at approximately 4:40 PM, Antioch Police Department patrol officers responded to a residence in the 3000 block of G Street on a report of a residential fire. Patrol officers and Contra Costa Fire arrived and located a fire inside the garage of the home. Contra Costa Fire Department was able to extinguish the fire and in the process of securing the home, located a large scale marijuana cultivation inside. Investigators arrived on scene and ultimately served a search warrant seizing approximately 635 marijuana plants from the home.

Investigators developed information leading to Shubaio Deng, a 45-year old Antioch resident, as a suspect in the cultivation. Deng was later contacted and arrested without incident for the marijuana cultivation and arson. The case is still being investigated by the Antioch Police Department’s Special Operations Unit.

On Thursday, September 18, 2014 at 11:06 p.m., Antioch Police Dispatch received a report of people fighting in the street, in the 2800 block of Mariposa Court, with shots fired. The caller advised that one subject had been shot and that all involved parties were leaving the area.

A few minutes later, Dispatch received a report of a major collision in the 600 block of Putnam Street. Upon arrival, the officers learned that a 38-year-old male was suffering from a single gunshot wound and crashed his vehicle as he attempted to drive himself to the hospital. The parked vehicles were unoccupied at the time.

The victim was transported to an area hospital by ambulance. He was treated for his injuries, which were determined to be non-life threatening.

At approximately 12:30 a.m. on September 11, the home of a Dozier-Libbey Medical High School teacher came under attack as, according to the victim, a lone gunman, standing in the street, fired 20 rounds at her house. Police picked up casings from a .45 caliber firearm.

The bullets penetrated the ground floor of the home and the garage, leaving large holes on the inside walls with some exiting an interior window. Several bullet holes can clearly be seen on both the outside and inside of the residence.

The teacher was the only one home at the time, but was not injured during the incident.

Antioch police are investigating the matter. No arrests have yet been made.

Over the weekend, at 3:25 AM on Saturday, August 30, 2014, the victim in last Thursday’s shootingat 17th and C Streets in Antioch, identified as Justin Henry Kroh, passed away in the hospital from the injuries he sustained.

Later that same morning, at approximately 5:05 AM, Antioch Police Officers and Detectives arrested Erick Santiago Granados, a 23-year-old Antioch resident, for the murder of Mr. Kroh. Detectives are continuing to gather evidence and follow-up on additional information in this case.

On Thursday, August 28, 2014 at approximately 7:24 PM, Antioch Police Officers responded to a report of a shooting at the intersection of 17th Street and C Street. The officers arrived to find an adult male victim incapacitated from an apparent gunshot wound. The 28-year-old victim was transported to a local area hospital where he remains in grave condition. This case is currently being investigated by the Antioch Police Department Investigations Bureau. We are in the preliminary stages of this case, and no further information will be released at this time.

On Sunday morning, August 24, 2014 at approximately 12:23 AM, Antioch Police Officers responded to a report of a shooting at a home in the 200 block of Lawton Street. The officers arrived to find a 30-year-old adult male victim incapacitated from multiple, apparent gunshot wounds. Life saving measures were taken by the arriving officers and medical personnel, and the victim was transported to a local area hospital. The victim, a San Francisco resident, was ultimately pronounced deceased at the hospital.

This case is currently being investigated as a homicide by the Antioch Police Department Investigations Bureau. We are in the preliminary stages of this investigation, and no further information will be released at this time.

On the night of Wednesday, August 20, 2014, members of our SWAT team partnered with the Contra Costa Sheriff’s J-Team and conducted a proactive crime suppression detail in the Sycamore Drive corridor.

Officers conducted one probation search, 48 pedestrian stops, 105 traffic stops, and 13 suspicious vehicle stops during this operation! By the end of the night, 12 arrests were made for outstanding warrants, possession of controlled substances, possession of a firearm, and resisting arrest.

I could not be more proud of the tireless efforts and fantastic work by the officers, dispatchers, and support staff dedicated to serving the City of Antioch. I am also grateful for the assistance being provided by neighboring law enforcement agencies, including Sheriff David Livingston and his J-Team, who continue to help us when resources allow. And finally, I am truly thankful for the continued support we receive from members of this great community!
