By Lieutenant Tony Morefield, Antioch Police Investigations Bureau

On Monday, December 29, 2014 at approximately 10:02 AM, an Antioch Police Officer on routine patrol encountered a subject (later identified as 31-year-old Gerald Delgado) acting suspiciously in the 2100 block of Dogwood Way in Antioch. When the officer tried to talk to Delgado, who was apparently trying to hide from and avoid contact with the officer, Delgado drew a can of pepper spray and threatened the officer. A brief physical altercation ensued and Delgado (after discarding the pepper spray) then drew a large fixed blade knife on the officer. The officer managed to gain some distance on this aggressive, armed suspect and challenged him at gunpoint.

Another officer quickly arrived on scene, and Delgado ultimately dropped the large knife after continued orders to comply by the officers. Delgado was only taken into custody after he further, violently resisted arrest and physically fought with the officers. These two officers showed amazing restraint in safely apprehending Delgado who had armed himself twice during the confrontation and violently resisted arrest.

One officer received minor injuries during the arrest of Delgado. Delgado had some more moderate injuries from the altercation and was treated and released from an area hospital before being transported to the County Jail in Martinez.

Antioch police arrest two thieves, one shot by homeowner during robbery, Wednesday afternoon

Thursday, December 11th, 2014

By Lt. Aguinaga, Antioch Police Field Services Bureau

On Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at 12:40 p.m. a 53-year-old male was home alone, in the 4000 block of Via Dora Drive, working in his home office. His wife, who had just left the home, was notified of a motion alert on her phone from their home alarm system. This alarm was for the back of the house, downstairs from the home office. She called her husband who armed himself and went to check on the motion alert. The homeowner found two people inside his home, going through his belongings. He confronted the two subjects at gunpoint, and fearing for his life, fired several rounds from his firearm.

The two subjects fled from his house, still carrying some of his property. A few minutes later the subjects showed up at a local hospital, one of them suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. At the time of this writing it appears this suspect’s injuries are not life threatening.

Those arrested are:

1) 21 year old male; Vallejo and SF resident with a felony criminal history.

2) 19 year old female; Vallejo and SF resident.

The homeowner (victim) was not injured, although he is obviously quite shaken up by the incident. He is fully cooperative with the police investigation.

This information is preliminary as the investigation is still unfolding. No further information will be released at this time.

Antioch police shoot at, search for suspects in Sunday morning armed robberies

Tuesday, December 9th, 2014

By Corporal William Dee, Antioch Police Patrol Division

On Sunday, December 7, 2014, at 2:45 a.m., Antioch Police responded to two armed robberies which occurred in the early morning hours. The first case occurred at the Chevron Gas Station on Delta Fair. One subject entered the business and demanded cash at gunpoint. The suspects were seen leaving the scene in a Toyota Tercel station wagon.

About an hour later, the same suspects robbed the 7-11 convenience store on Contra Loma Blvd. In each case, the same suspect entered the store and brandished a handgun and fled with cash. The suspects fled the area in each case in a stolen Toyota Tercel station wagon (which has since been recovered). During the second robbery, store security footage showed at least two other suspects waiting in the stolen car while the robbery took place.

The suspects were located by an officer within minutes of the second robbery. The officer confronted the occupants at gunpoint at which time one of the suspects brandished a machine pistol at the officer. The officer fired his duty weapon striking the car which lead to a short pursuit and collision. All of the suspects fled on foot. An extensive search was conducted, but the suspects were not located. The officer was not injured, and it is unknown if any of the suspects were injured at this time.

These cases are currently being investigated by the Antioch Police Department Investigations Bureau. No further information will be released at this time.

Fatal Antioch car accident claims 51-year-old man, early Friday morning

Saturday, December 6th, 2014

By Lieutenant Don LaDue, Antioch Police Field Services Bureau

On Friday, December 5, 2014 at approximately 1:42 am the Antioch Police Department responded to a report of a vehicle collision on East 18th Street near Phillips Lane

When officers arrived, they located two vehicles with major damage in the roadway. Two women in their 30’s occupied the first vehicle that was rear ended by a 51 year old male driving a second vehicle. The male complained of chest pain and was transported by ambulance to a local area hospital where he died soon after arrival. The women in the vehicle that was struck by the male had complaints of pain, but did not require medical assistance at the time.

Preliminary investigation indicates that speed may have been a factor. It is not known if alcohol or drugs were involved, pending an autopsy by the Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office. It is also not known if the male was experiencing a medical issue prior to the collision, which could have contributed to the cause. The names of the involved parties will not be released at this time.

Currently, officers are following up on possible leads and interviewing witnesses. This incident is still under investigation. Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to contact the Antioch Police Dept. at (925) 778-2441.
