On Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 9:56 PM Antioch Police Officers responded to the 911 call of a fight in the area with gunshots being fired. Officers arrived in the 1500 block of Sandy Way, off East 18th Street in Antioch, and encountered a group of approximately fifty subjects in the street.

A 14-year-old juvenile was later found to have been struck in the leg by fragments and sustained a non-life threatening injury. The juvenile was transported to an area hospital for treatment and later released.

There is no suspect information at this time and the investigation is still on-going.

On Wednesday, January 28, 215 at 2:03 AM, Antioch police officers heard gunshots in the area of W. 18th and A Streets. While attempting to locate the source of the gunfire APD dispatch received a 911 call from a female stating someone had just shot into her house through the front bedroom wall. She was awakened by the gunfire as she was sleeping in the bedroom when the shots came through.

The 48-year-old female was uninjured and relayed that she suspected the person responsible was her estranged husband, 47-year-old John Goodner, who is a retired Hercules police K-9 officer. Officers responded to Goodner’s residence in the 800 block of Putnam Street and made contact with him. Goodner did not immediately surrender and would not comply with the officers’ commands. He was eventually taken into custody with the assistance of a Police K-9 without further incident.

Through the ensuing investigation it was learned that Goodner had been stalking and threatening his estranged wife since their separation, and on this night he drove past her house and fired multiple shots into her bedroom.

Goodner was booked into the Martinez Main Detention Facility and the district attorney’s office has filed charges of Attempted Murder as well as one count each of Shooting into an Occupied Dwelling, Terrorist Threats and Stalking. Goodner is being held on $1,775,000 bail. No further information will be released at this time.

The Goodners have been married for four years and have five children, between them, all from previous marriages. He became a professional photographer, following his retirement.

On 2/12/15 at 12:32 am, a caller reported seeing subjects taking a gun out of the trunk of small dark sedan in the 800 block of W. 9th St. Officers arrived and contacted 23 year old Daniel Esquivel and 29 year old Genaro Reyes. Officers searched the vehicle and located two firearms. Esquivel was issued a citation and released Reyes was booked at the county jail.

On 2/12/15 at 12:17 a.m., an officer contacted 24 year old Richard Castillo who was loitering in the area of William Reed Dr. near Cataline Ave. A glass pipe was found on his person along with methamphetamine and methadone pills. He was identified and released on a citation.

On 2/1015 at 8:52 pm, dispatch received several calls of a possible drunk driver in the area of Deer Valley Rd. and Hillcrest Ave. An officer located the vehicle and contacted the driver, 50 year old Antionette Brownhill. Brownhill was found to be under the influence of alcohol and prescription medications. Brownhill was arrested and booked at the county jail.

On 2/11/15 at 12:40 am, an officer was patrolling the area of Belshaw St., when he noticed a dome light on inside of a parked Honda sedan. As he pulled in behind the vehicle the dome light turned off. The officer located 32 year old Jeffrey Landrum inside the vehicle wearing latex gloves. Landrum was in the process of stripping the interior of the vehicle.

The vehicle was reported stolen out of the City of Pittsburg. Landrum was arrested without incident and booked at the county jail.

On 2/10/15 at 4:46 pm, an officer responded to the area of W 13th St regarding a complaint about drug activity. the officers conducted surveillance on 511 W.13th St. for about 45 min before seeing 48 year old Leanord Burleigh preparing to leave the house.

Allendorph made contact and found Leanord to have a traffic related warrant for his arrest. He was also found to have a bag of meth in his pocket. Burleigh was found to be on probation for drugs and weapons. He was arrested and booked at the county jail.

On 2/9/15 at 5:31 pm, an officer observed 23 year old Patrick West run a stop sign at Deerfield and Via Dora Drives. The officer conducted an enforcement stop and contacted West, who was the driver. Through Officer Smith’s investigation, he located about a pound of marijuana individually packed for sale as well as additional packaging, a digital gram scale and cash indicating the marijuana was possessed for the purpose of sales. Patrick was arrested and booked at the county jail.

On 2/8/15 at 7:51 pm, officers were dispatched to a man with a gun call on Banyan Way. The caller advised that a male was seen holding a pistol in his hand. Officers located a suspect matching the description of the gunman, who was later identified as 24 year old Thomas Nordseth.

As officers approached him, Nordseth tossed a loaded .22 ca semi-automatic pistol to the ground and fled on a bike. Nordseth crashed his bike into a patrol car as he was trying to flee. A police canine was deployed and apprehend Nordseth.

Nordseth continued to resist officers and the canine. Once taken into custody, Nordseth was found to be a parolee at large on the charge of robbery and he also had a probation violation warrant issued out of Alameda County. The pistol was reported stolen in Suisun City. Nordseth was booked at the county jail.

On Sunday, February 8, 2015 at approximately 9:08 AM, Antioch Police Officers were dispatched to the 3700 block of Sunset Lane for the report of a shooting that just occurred with a subject shot. Upon arrival, Officers located the victim, 41-year-old Robert Morton seated in a U-haul moving truck suffering from a single gunshot wound. Officers were also aware that Morton was wanted on several outstanding warrants for his arrest. When officers attempted to remove Morton from the vehicle to provide first aid, he fled from them in his vehicle. A brief vehicle pursuit ensued that ended when officers lost the vehicle in the area of Deer Valley Rd and Blue Rock Dr.

A short time later APD dispatch received a call of a suspicious circumstance involving the U-haul moving truck taking place at a Chevron gas station located on Lone Tree Way in the city of Brentwood. Upon arrival, Officers from Brentwood PD and Antioch PD located the vehicle driving away. A traffic stop was conducted on the U-haul on Empire Ave and Wicklow Way. Morton was located in the back of the U-haul and was treated by medical personnel and transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released before being taken into custody on his outstanding warrants and the additional charge of evading.

The investigation into the identity of the shooter is ongoing but preliminary information gathered indicates Morton was the intended target.

On Sunday, February 8, 2015 at approximately 11:20 AM, Antioch Police Officers were dispatched to the area of Bluebonnett Court and Bluebell Circle for the report of a kidnapping, robbery and sexual assault of a pizza delivery driver.

Upon arrival, officers made contact with the 22-year-old female victim who was visibly shaken. The victim advised she was delivering a pizza and had just exited her vehicle when she was approached by a male armed with a handgun. The male forced her back into her car at gunpoint and ordered her to drive to a secondary location approximately one-quarter mile away where he proceeded to sexually assault the victim. The male then forced the victim to drive him back to the original location where he fled the vehicle on foot taking some of the victim’s personal property.

The investigation led Antioch officers to a 17-year-old male juvenile who was positively identified by the victim as the responsible in this case. The juvenile was subsequently arrested on a variety of charges and sent to Juvenile Hall.

The case was forwarded to the Antioch Police Department Investigations Bureau for further investigation.

Antioch Police Department calls for service highlights

On 2/4/2015 at 12:27 PM, police contacted 46-year old David Salazar in the 500 block of W.13th St. during a suspicious vehicle call. Salazar was found to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine and concentrated cannabis. Salazar was booked at the police department and released with a citation.

On 2/3/2015 at 7:47 pm, officers were working a proactive detail when they saw a minivan being driving by 30 year old Travis Johnson. Upon running the plate they learned the vehicle was reported stolen. A short vehicle pursuit ensued which ended when Travis and the passenger, 32 year old Katie Johnson, parked the vehicle on Putnam St. near Polk Court and fled on foot. Katie Johnson was located and taken into custody without incident. Travis Johnson, who also has an outstanding felony warrant for his arrest, was able to flee from the area and was not located.

On 2/3/2015 at 11:22 pm, Officers responded to 16 N. Lake Dr. on a report of possible squatters inside the vacant home. Officers determined the side garage door had been forced open. Officers established a perimeter and searched the house. 22 year old Steven Cardoza and a second subject were located inside. Cardoza was found to be in possession of 4 shaved keys, which are used to steal certain makes of vehicles. Cardoza was arrested and booked at the police department. He was later released on a citation. The second subject was released at the scene.

On 2/2/2015 at 12:49 am, officers responded to a residential alarm at 56 E. Madill Street. Upon arrival, they located 29 year old Jose Escobar in the driveway of the residence. Escobar was not a resident at the house. It was determined there was no burglary at the residence but upon checking Escobar for warrants, he was found to have an outstanding felony warrant for his arrest charging vehicle theft and possession of a controlled substance. Escobar was taken into custody and later booked at the county jail.

The autopsy into the death of Dewayne Ward took place this morning. The cause of death is listed as multiple gunshot wounds of chest and abdomen. Toxicology tests are pending.

Detectives from the Contra Costa D.A.’s Office, Office of the Sheriff and Antioch Police Department continue to investigate the officer involved shooting that occurred in Antioch.

At about 12:40 PM on Tuesday, February 3, 2015, Deputy Sheriffs from the Civil Unit went to an apartment complex on the one thousand block of Claudia Ct. in Antioch to carry out a Domestic Violence Restraining Order/Criminal Protective Order, which included a move out order.

The knife the County Sheriff’s office claims was used by Dwayne Ward before he was fatally shot on Tuesday.

Deputies contacted the occupant, 29-year-old Ward, who had prior law enforcement contacts. Ward had a no bail probation warrant. During the contact, Ward did not obey verbal commands from the deputies and resisted. Deputies then deployed force options that included pepper spray, a police K-9 and a Taser. They did not appear to have any effect on him. Ward continued to resist and charged at a deputy with a knife (see attached photo). The deputy fired his duty weapon striking the armed man. He was later pronounced deceased at the scene.

The deputy sheriff that shot Ward is Scott Pliler, who has been with the Office of the Sheriff for 13 years. He is currently a K-9 Deputy assigned to Patrol Division.

On Tuesday, February 03, 2015, at approximately 7:52 PM, Antioch Police Department Officers responded to a motorcycle vs. vehicle traffic collision in the area of E. 13th St. and Simmons St. Antioch Police Officers and Fire Department personnel arrived and located the 29 year old male motorcycle driver with major injuries. The male was transported to John Muir Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
