the most successful, and largest-scale, operation of this type ever held in East Contra Costa County”

By Chief Allan Cantando

Last week, the Antioch Police Department served as the Command Post for a five-day, multi-agency operation. The primary purpose of this operation was to apprehend people in the eastern region of Contra Costa County who were wanted on outstanding felony warrants.

Over 150 law enforcement personnel participated in this operation from the following agencies: Antioch PD, Pittsburg PD, Brentwood PD, CHP, Concord PD, CCC Sheriff’s Office, Oakley PD, CCC Probation, CCC DA Investigators, West-NET, CDCR Fugitive Apprehension Team, SFPD, Oakland PD, San Rafael PD, San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, San Francisco County Sheriff’s Office, FBI, ICE, ATF, DEA, High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area program, Northern California Regional Intelligence Center, Western States Information Network, and the US Marshals Service.

When it was all said and done, this operation proved to be a HUGE success! Here is a synopsis of what we accomplished:

– 87 total arrests

– 1 arrest of a subject wanted for murder

– 1 arrest of a subject wanted for vehicular homicide

– 1 arrest of a subject wanted for vehicular manslaughter

– 11 guns seized

– 6 ounces of cocaine seized

– 2 ounces of marijuana seized

– 75 prescription pills seized

Additionally, CHP officers issued 83 citations, towed 36 vehicles, and recovered 3 stolen vehicles.

This was the most successful, and largest-scale, operation of this type ever held in East Contra Costa County. The communication and teamwork displayed by all involved was absolutely phenomenal.

I would like to extend my sincerest thanks to all the officers, detectives, marshals, deputies, agents, investigators, dispatchers, jailers, community service officers, analysts, and support/clerical staff who joined together to help make our community safer!

Approximately 40,000 Bay Area students (up to age 18), teachers and chaperones will have the opportunity to ride BART free for educational field trips thanks to a partnership with Monterey Bay Aquarium, which is funding the program.

Bay Area schools may now apply for free BART rides for educational field trips online on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration ends December 31, 2014 or sooner if the program reaches 40,000 riders.

Enrolled students of elementary, middle, and high schools located in the Bay Area on school-sponsored field trips for educational purposes are eligible.

To better serve more students throughout the Bay Area, each school is limited to six field trips. This will allow more schools to participate in the program. To register, go to www.bart.gov/fieldtrips

Partnering on ‘Free BART Rides for School Field Trips’ is a natural extension of our commitment to a making sure children in the region have a rich educational experience,” said Mimi Hahn, vice president of marketing and communications for the nonprofit aquarium.
